Cost of Labor Study

For years, hospitals and facilities have often assumed that travel clinicians come at a higher cost. New national data shows that is not always the case- and in many situations, the opposite is true.

A newly released 2026 Cost of Labor Study commissioned by NATHO and conducted independently by KPMG reveals that when all labor costs are considered- benefits, vacancies, overtime, and turnover - travel clinicians frequently cost less and permanent staff.

The study reflects insights from 100 healthcare executives nationwide and arrives at a time when organizations continue to navigate workforce shortages, burnout and significant financial pressures.

This report is a powerful example of what our community can accomplish together — and a testament to NATHO's commitment to delivering meaningful data, resources, and tools that support our members and elevate the travel healthcare staffing industry.
